There have been quite a lot of amazing inventions over the years, but at the same time, we also had some rather dumb ones. It’s safe to say that while some inventions revolutionized industries, some of them was a simple, sometimes useless gimmick. Here we are covering some of the most interesting, yet bizarre inventions that people made over the years.
During the 1960s, there was a massage helmet that would give you a head massage. The unit would provide an air-powered scalp rubdown. You can still find this invention today, but it’s not that popular. Why is that? Aside from being hard to carry around, it also looked very funny, and the benefits were not that great, to begin with.
Siamese dancing shoes
The idea here is that you have 2 pairs of shoes that are connected. Some would say that it would help people stay in sync on the dancefloor. However, they were uncomfortable and you would mostly stumble upon them and fall. So they were quite inefficient.
Inventor Charles Steinlauf created a bicycle that would have spots for 2 people to pedal, there was a seat for a seamstress to continue her work, and a person would be in the front of the bike. This was quite an interesting idea, but very hard to keep straight on the road, and poorly designed.
This invention was interesting because it would automatically release all of its contents in case a thief would try to steal it. Some models released chemical vapors in case someone would try to grab them. With that being said, the simple model was quite efficient. The downside was that you had to grab all the items that fell, which would take a while.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co wanted to make cars look cool during the 50s, and they created a variety of flashy, illuminated tires. The problem was that creating them on a very large scale would be expensive. On top of that, they were also not that practical. This trend wore off, but some cars from that era were restored and they look great with these tires.
During the 1950s, it was quite common to drag your sleeve through a stick of butter. It became quite the chore to the point where Russell Oakes created a butter protector that was very similar to a spider. Nowadays we have rather luxurious butter protectors, but even this old gadget was just as efficient.
As you can see, people always tried to find solutions to the problems they encountered. This is why it was quite interesting to see how they solved this problem every time. Some of the inventions were funny, others were outrageous, but it’s still amazing to see human ingenuity in all of its glory. This shows that the human mind is always ready to impress us with some unique inventions!
